The Composting crew from Sunnycompost welcome your food waste every Sundays 2-5pm at Sunnyside Community Gardens!

Drop off hours:
(We need volunteers during these hours- please help if you can!)   

    March 1 - October 31: Sundays 2 – 5 p.m.
    November 1 - February 28: Sundays 2 – 4 p.m.

    at 50th Street and Barnett Ave in Sunnyside Queens, NYC.

    Drop-off during these hours ONLY.
    We may leave a bin outside the gate in case of inclement weather. 
    We do not accept any food scrap donations outside of these hours.

Please remember:
  • NO plastics or non-biodegradable materials
  • REMOVE stickers from fruit and vegetable peels
  • take your containers back with you.
Accepted materials include:
  •  fruit and vegetable scraps,    
  •  non-greasy food scraps (rice, pasta, bread, cereal etc.),
  •  coffee grounds & filters, tea bags,
  •  egg and nut shells, pits,
  •  cut or dried flowers, houseplants and potting soil.
 We do NOT accept meat, chicken, fish, greasy food scraps, fat, oil, dairy, animal waste, litter or bedding, coal or charcoal, coconuts, diseased and/or insect-infested houseplants/soil or biodegradable/compostable plastics.

Keep your food scraps in a brown bag in your freezer or a reusable container (juice carton, yogurt container, crock, plastic tub, etc.) We ask you that any containers you bring your scraps in be taken with you.

We are also participating in Project Leaf Drop. So bring your leaves too!
